NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

The private pilot taxied the airplane onto the active runway and applied full power to start the takeoff roll. He reported everything appeared normal as he pulled the airplane off the runway when it felt like it was lifting off. The pilot stated the airplane seemed to mush and did not want to climb or gain airspeed. At approximately 50 feet AGL, he dropped the nose in an attempt to gain airspeed. The airplane pulled to the left and then settled onto an adjacent wheat field. After the initial impact, the airplane skidded and nosed over. No preimpact mechanical anomalies were reported by the pilot.

NTSB Probable Cause Narrative

the pilot's failure to obtain sufficient airspeed prior to liftoff. A factor in the accident was the pilot's lack of total experience in type of airplane.
