NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On August 9, 1994, at 1600 hours Pacific daylight time, a Cessna 182, N2160G, collided with a boulder and was destroyed while landing on a dirt runway at Creel, Mexico. The pilot and one of his passengers received minor injuries. The second passenger in the rear seat was fatally injured. Visual meteorological conditions existed at the time and a VFR flight plan was filed for the flight from Hermosillo, Mexico. The pilot reported that the winds were very turbulent during the approach and landing. The pilot stated he was high and tried to line up on the runway. At touchdown, the aircraft departed off the side of the runway, hit a boulder, and nosed over. He stated the approach was to the east with the winds from the south at 15 knots. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the government of Mexico.
