NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On December 15, 1994, about 0615 greenwich mean time, a Douglas DC-3C, N96BF, was destroyed when it descended and collided with the ground during the initial takeoff climb, near Lobito, Africa. The two pilots received fatal injuries. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the business flight operated by SL-Aviation Services, and conducted under 14 CFR Part 91. The airplane was loaded with sacks of beans weighing 4,400 KG. After takeoff from runway 16, approximately 300 feet above the ground, there was a sudden an pronounced increase in the angle of attack. The airplane descended and struck the ground. The left wing was separated from the first impact. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the government of Central African Republic.
