NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On March 31, 1995, about 1445 central standard time, FAH120, a Cessna 185-F crashed on takeoff at Tegucigalpa, Honduras. The airplane was operated by the Honduran Air Force as a government passenger transport mission. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time and a military, VFR flight plan was filed. The airplane was destroyed and the pilot, copilot and two passengers were fatally injured. One of the persons aboard the aircraft was the nephew of the President of Honduras. The flight was originating at the time of the accident. Witnesses stated they observed the airplane utilize the entire length of runway 01. The airplane climbed to about 300 feet above the runway. They heard the engine sounds stop, and they observed the airplane bank steeply to the left. The airplane rolled inverted, impacted the taxiway inverted and nosed over. The airplane then slid into a drainage culvert. Examination of the fuel system revealed that the flow of fuel to the engine was restricted by foreign material. The NTSB Southeast Regional Office received a request from the U.S. Embassy to assist in the investigation. Mr. Andrew Alston is the U.S.Accredited Representative. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the government of Honduras. Any further information may be obtained from: Ing.
