NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On June 23, 1996, about 1100 central daylight time, a Piper PA-18, Guatemalan registration, TG-CUB, registered to an private individual, crashed shortly after takeoff from Aeroclub Guatemala, Iztapa, Escuintla, Guatemala, while on a 14 CFR Part 91 personal flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time and no flight plan was filed. The aircraft received substantial damage and the private-rated pilot and 1 passenger were fatally injured. The flight was originating at the time of the accident. Guatemalan Civil Aviation Authorities reported to the U.S. Embassy that the aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff. The pilot was a U.S. citizen. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Government of Guatemala.
