NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On June 29, 1996, about 0850 eastern daylight time, a Beech D18S, N354T, registered to Aero Caribbean Express, operated by Sky Charter, Inc., experienced a loss of control while landing at the Rock Sound Airport, Rock Sound, Bahamas. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time and a VFR flight plan was filed for the 14 CFR Part 135 nonscheduled, international, cargo flight. The airplane was substantially damaged and the airline transport-rated pilot, the sole occupant, was not injured. The flight originated about 0700 from the Opa-Locka Airport, Opa-Locka, Florida. The pilot stated that after touchdown he applied the brakes and heard a sound. The airplane then began drifting off the right side of the runway. He applied left brake and rudder and the drifting continued. He then applied power to the right engine and the airplane traveled onto the runway, turned 180 degrees, collapsing both main landing gears. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the government of the Bahamas. Any further information pertaining to this accident may be obtained from: Director of Civil Aviation, Bahamas P.O.
