NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On May 30, 1997, approximately 1030 central standard time, a Bell UH-1H helicopter, Peruvian registration, PNP-308, was destroyed during a forced landing in remote jungle terrain following a loss of power, near Roque, Peru. The helicopter, operated by the Peruvian National Police, was destroyed. Nine occupants, all Peruvian, were on board. The pilot, co-pilot, and crew chief received serious injuries, 4 passengers were seriously injured, and 2 passengers received fatal injuries. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the local flight that originated from Tarapoto, Peru, at 0920. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Government of Peru.
