NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident
On December 28, 1997, about 1140 Atlantic standard time, a Rockwell 690A, N60B, registered to Interlease Aviation Corporation, was substantially damaged on landing at the Vanguardia Airport, Villavicencio, Colombia. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time and an IFR flight plan was filed for the aerial photography flight. The airline transport-rated pilot and photographer were not injured. The flight originated about 4 hours 50 minutes earlier from the Vanguard Airport.
According to the airplane operator, the pilot was unable to extend the main landing gear and the nose landing gear automatically extended due to a loss of hydraulic pressure. After landing in that configuration, structural damage to the airplane was noted. The operator also stated that previously, all hydraulic hoses were replaced, but the facility that performed the work did not pressure test or ball check the hoses. The airplane was further examined in the United States and debris was found at the landing gear selector valve.
