NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On May 8, 1998, about 1700 eastern daylight time, a Piper PA-23-250, N5813Y, registered to Majors Air Services, Inc., operating as a Bahamian charter flight, collided with trees while landing at Walker's Cay, Abaco Islands, Bahamas, and came to rest in water adjacent to the airport. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and a DVFR flight plan was filed. The airplane received substantial damage, the pilot drowned, and five passengers sustained minor injuries. The flight originated about 30 minutes before the accident. According to initial CAA reports, the flight appeared to lose directional control on landing, a go-around was attempted, a wing collided with treetops, and the airplane crashed in the water. Strong surface winds were reported. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Department of Civil Aviation, Nassau, Bahamas.
