NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On July 8, 1998, about 1743 mountain daylight time, a Beech BE58, N9025V, registered to a private owner, operating as a personal flight, crashed while attempting to land at the Belize International Airport, Belize City, Belize. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and no flight plan was filed. The airplane was destroyed. The private pilot and 3 passengers were fatally injured. The flight originated from Belize International about 7 minutes before the accident. According to personnel from the Director of Civil Aviation (DCA), the pilot reported an engine problem to the control tower about 2 minutes after takeoff. The tower alerted crash rescue personnel, which were dispatched to the active runway. The airplane entered a left base for runway 07and crashed short of the runway. A witness who is a fixed base operator informed the DCA that he observed the airplane on a left base for runway 07. The left engine appeared to be inoperative and the airspeed was described as slow. The pilot appeared to increase the angle of bank, and the airplane continued to roll to the left, colliding with the ground. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the government of Belize. This report is for informational purposes only and contains information obtained for or released by the Belize government.
