NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On May 24, 1999, about 2130 eastern daylight time, a Mitsubishi MU-2B-40, N701K was destroyed when it struck terrain shortly after departure from an airport at Perry Sound, Ontario, Canada. The two occupants were fatally injured. Instrument meteorological conditions prevailed in the area of the departure airport, for the flight destined for Toronto, Ontario, Canada. An instrument flight rules (IFR) flight plan had been filed. The pilot had received his IFR clearance by telephone and was given a void time. No radio or radar contact was ever established with the flight. A search was initiated, and the airplane was found about 3 miles north of Perry Sound on May 27, 1999. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
