On June 22, 1999 at 1115 Eastern Daylight Time, a Robinson R22 helicopter, N220WP, was substantially damaged during a mid-air collision with a Zlin Z-42M airplane near Grossenhain, Saxonia, Germany. The flight inspector and student pilot of the airplane, and the pilot and passenger of the helicopter were fatally injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and the type of flight plan filed was unknown. According to German aviation authorities, the helicopter departed Kueritz, Germany, at 0758, destined for Dresden, Germany. The helicopter made one stop en route, on a farm, near Kueritz. The airplane departed Riesa airfield, 20 miles northwest of Dresden, at 1024, for a VFR check-flight.
