NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident
On September 17, 1999, about 1130 Atlantic standard time, an Aero Commander 500S, Guatemalan registration TG-RBK, registered to a private individual, crashed near La Tinta, Guatemala, while on a 14 CFR Part 91 personal flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time, and a flight plan was filed. The aircraft was destroyed and the pilot and five passengers were fatally injured. The flight was terminating at the time of the accident.
The flight originated from La Aurora International Airport, and was en route to a farm near La Tinta, about 60 miles northeast of Guatemala City, when according to a witness, the airplane crashed about 300 meters short of the runway at a farm near La Tinta. The witness also stated that there were several reported thunderstorms along the projected route of flight.
