On October 18, 1999, at 1430 central daylight time, a Cessna 182P airplane, Guatemalan registration TG-ROF, was destroyed upon impact with terrain during a forced landing following the loss of engine power near Coban, Department of Alta Verapaz, in the Republic of Guatemala. The pilot and two of his passengers sustained fatal injuries, and two passengers were seriously injured. The airplane was owned and operated by the pilot. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the business flight for which a VFR flight plan was filed. The flight originated from the Coban Airport, approximately 5 minutes prior to the accident. The flight was scheduled for intermediate stops in Lansetillo, Playa Grande, Ixcan and Quiche, Guatemala. Government authorities who traveled to the accident site confirmed that the 1973 Cessna "Skylane," serial number 182-62085, was equipped with a Continental O-470-R engine.
