NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

The pilot stated he was over flying an airport at 2,500 feet when he observed smoke coming up behind the firewall followed by flames. A forced landing was made to the airport and the airplane was consumed by fire. Examination of the wreckage could not determine the source of the reported in-flight fire.

NTSB Probable Cause Narrative

An in-flight fire in the vicinity of the firewall from an undetermined source. This resulted in a forced landing to an airport and total consumption of the airplane by fire after landing.
