NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On July 08, 2000, about 1050 eastern daylight time, a Piper PA32-300, N7638F, registered to and operated by a private owner as a Title 14 CFR Part 91 personal flight, collided with a truck during landing roll at Staniel Cay Airport, Staniel Cay, Bahamas. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident, and a visual flight rules flight plan was filed. The aircraft and the truck sustained substantial damage. The private-rated pilot and the passenger sustained minor injuries. Both occupants of the truck sustained serious injuries. The flight originated from Nassau, Bahamas, the same day, about 1010. The pilot stated he made an uneventful landing on runway 16. During landing rollout, a pickup pulled onto the runway in front of him. He veered to the left to avoid colliding with the truck, but the aircraft hit the truck. The accident investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Government of the Bahamas.
