NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On September 09, 2000, at 1800 central daylight time, a Dornier DO-28D-2 twin engine airplane, Ecuadorian registration HC-BNT, was destroyed upon impact with wires and terrain during a forced landing following the loss of engine power during approach near Manta, Ecuador. The co-pilot was fatally injured. The flight instructor acting as pilot-in-command, and the 2 passengers aboard the airplane were seriously injured. The airplane was owned and operated by Misiones Salesianas de Oriente, of Quito, Ecuador. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the domestic flight from Manta to Coaselsa, Ecuador. A VFR flight plan was filed for the cargo flight. This investigation is under the control and supervision of the Government of the Republic of Ecuador.
