NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

THE ACCIDENT AIRPLANE COLLIDED WITH TERRAIN WHILE ATTEMPTING AN OFF AIRPORT EMERGENCY LANDING ON A ROAD. THE AIRPLANE HAD JUST DEPARTED FROM A PRIVATE LANDING STRIP OWNED BY THE PILOT AND WAS IN INITIAL CLIMB WHEN IT LOST POWER AT APPROXIMATELY 100 FEET AGL. AN AFTER ACCIDENT INSPECTION OF THE AIRPLANE ENGINE REVEALED THAT THE MAIN FUEL LINE B-NUT WAS LOOSE AT THE CARBURETOR. A REVIEW OF THE AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE RECORDS SHOWED THAT THE AIRPLANE WAS GIVEN AN ANNUAL INSPECTION 10 FLIGHT HOURS PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT. DURING THIS INSPECTION A NEW FUEL LINE FROM THE FUEL STRAINER TO THE CARBURETOR WAS FABRICATED AND INSTALLED.

NTSB Probable Cause Narrative

A LOOSE FUEL LINE CAUSED BY IMPROPER INSTALLATION BY MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL.
