NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident
On June 5, 1999, a Mooney 20, F-GJGN, lost engine power in flight, and a forced landing was performed to a field. The flight instructor and dual student on board were not injured.
According to the investigator, three minutes after takeoff for a training flight, the engine, "suddenly began to show malfunction problems, banged and turned rough. The instructor took the controls and diverted back to the airfield...The instructor performed a safe landing in a field... ."
A teardown examination of the engine will be conducted at Lycoming Engines under the supervision of the National Transportation Safety Board. The accident is under the jurisdiction of the Bureau Enquetes-Accidents (BEA). For further information please contact:
