NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

ON APRIL 16, 1988, AT APPROXIMATELY 0800 CST, A BOEING COMMERCIAL AIRPLANE COMPANY MODEL 757-225, N510EA, REGISTERED TO AND OPERATED BY EASTERN AIR LINES, INC. AS FLIGHT 918, SCHEDULED INTERNATIONAL PASSENGER SERVICE FROM SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA, TO MIAMI, FLORIDA, WAS EVACUATED VIA AN EMERGENCY SLIDE AFTER RETURNING TO SAN JOSE FOLLOWING A BOMB THREAT. THE AIRCRAFT WAS NOT DAMAGED, AND ONE PASSENGER RECEIVED SERIOUS INJURIES DURING THE EVACUATION. THE AIRLINE TRANSPORT RATED PILOT AND COPILOT, 6 FLIGHT ATTENDANTS, AND THE REMAINING 184 PASSENGERS WERE NOT INJURED. THE FLIGHT HAD ORIGINATED AT SAN JOSE ON APRIL 16, 1988, AT 0737 CST.
