NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On June 17, 2001, at 2005 Eastern Daylight Time, a Cessna 172N, Canadian registry C-GMHU, was substantially damaged during a forced landing in Richmond Hill, Ontario, shortly after takeoff from Toronto Buttonville Municipal Airport (CYKZ), Markham, Ontario. The Canadian-certificated private pilot was seriously injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident. No flight plan had been filed for the local personal flight, which was conducted under Canadian flight regulations. According to an investigator from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, the airplane experienced a loss of engine power during a climb-out from Runway 33. The pilot turned the airplane to the left, and force-landed in a three-story house. There were no injuries sustained by the home's occupants when the airplane entered the kitchen through the second-floor patio windows. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the government of Canada.
