NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On September 12, 2001, at 1620 central daylight time, a LET 410 UVP-E twin engine airplane, Mexican registration XA-ACM, was destroyed during a forced landing following a loss of engine power to the #2 engine during initial takeoff climb from the Chichen Itza International Airport, near Kaua, State of Yucatan, in the Republic of Mexico. The Czech built airplane was owned and operated by Aero Ferinco S.A. de C.V., a Mexican certificated on-demand regional and international air taxi operator based in Cozumel, Mexico. The airline transport rated pilot, the first officer, the tour guide, and the 16 passengers aboard the airplane were fatally injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the planned 50-minute cross country flight for which a VFR flight plan was filed. The flight was initiating at the time of the accident. The flight was destined for the Cozumel Airport. This investigation is under the jurisdiction and control of the Government of the Republic of Mexico.
