NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On December 4, 2001, about 1400 Coordinated Universal Time, N7375A, a Boeing 767-323, operated by American Airlines, experienced an in-flight separation of the no. 2 engine pylon strut fairing during climbout from Brussels, Belgium. The fairing impacted and damaged the no. 8 leading edge slat on the right wing. No other aircraft damage was reported. The airplane was destined for Chicago's O'Hare International Airport but performed an uneventful precautionary landing at London's Heathrow Airport after the incident. None of the 12 crewmembers and 65 passengers were injured. The investigation is being conducted under the jurisdiction of the government of the United Kingdom.
