NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On climbout from HNL going through 9,000 feet, the No. 1 engine experienced an uncontained failure in plane of low pressure turbine. Fragments penetrated the left main wheel area and disabled the "C" hydraulic system. The airplane returned to HNL without further incident. Onsite examination of the engine showed multiple holes in the plane of the LPT. The fan was free to rotate, but the LPT did not rotate. Engine was a Rolls Royce RB-211-22B. There were no injuries to the crew, and no injuries to any passengers (actual number of passengers is unknown).
