NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On March 28, 2002, at 1500 universal coordinated time (UTC), a Cessna 340A twin-engine airplane, Panamanian registration HP-1333AL, was substantially damaged during a forced landing following a reported loss of engine power on the right engine during initial takeoff climb from Chitre, Province of Herrera, in the Republic of Panama. The commercial pilot and his passenger sustained minor injuries. The airplane, serial number 340A-0767, was owed by Inmobiliaria Dynora and was being operated by Aerolineas Lasso S.A., of Panama City, Panama, a domestic air-taxi operator. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the air taxi flight for which a visual flight rules (VFR) flight plan was filed. The flight was originating at the time of the accident. The flight's destination was Panama City (MAG), Panama. The flight departed from runway 01 at Chitre, executed a right turnout and crashed in the ocean during low tide, approximately 3 miles from the beach. The accident investigation is under the jurisdiction and control of the Government of the Republic of Panama.
