NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On May 27, 2002, an amphibious Cessna TU206F, N753, serial no. U20603401, operated by the U.S. Department of the Interior, crashed near Swan River, Manitoba, Canada. Of the two persons on board, the pilot sustained minor injuries and passenger was not injured. The airplane was destroyed ub the impact and post-crash fire. The airplane was operating in daylight, visual meteorological conditions, under the regulations and authority of CAA, Canada. The flight was on a game observation mission in conjunction with Canadian authorities. Shortly after takeoff from runway 20 at Swan River, the pilot reportedly felt engine vibrations and observed a decrease of manifold pressure. He turned towards the airport and, unable to maintain altitude, performed a forced landing in flat, bushy, and treed terrain, about 1 mile west of the airport. The investigation in being conducted under the authority of Transportation Safety Board, Canada.
