NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On June 24, 2002, at 0730 New Zealand Standard Time, a New Zealand registered Piper PA-31-310, ZK-NPR, landed with right main landing gear retracted at the Napier, New Zealand, airport. The landing gear failed to extend and all attempts by the pilot to rectify the problem prior to touchdown were unsuccessful. The airplane was operated by Air Napier, Ltd., under the pertinent provisions of the New Zealand Civil Aviation Regulations as a positioning flight. The aircraft sustained substantial damage; however, the commercial pilot, the sole occupant, was not injured. The flight originated at Palmerston, New Zealand, and was destined for Napier. The accident is under the jurisdiction of, and being investigated by, the New Zealand Transport Accident Investigation Commission.
