NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

THE PILOT OF CESSNA 172, N2986U WAS FLYING IN FORMATION WITH ANOTHER CESSNA 172, N73616 ON A CROSS-COUNTRY FLIGHT. N73616 CONTACTED EVANSVILLE APPROACH AND WAS CLEARED TO INTERCEPT THE 030 DEGREE RADIAL, OUTBOUND FROM EVANSVILLE, IN. AS A TURN WAS MADE TO PROCEED ALONG THE RADIAL, THE TWO AIRCRAFT COLLIDED. THE LEFT WING OF N73616 AND THE RIGHT REAR FUSELAGE AND RIGHT AILERON OF N2986U WERE DAMAGED. BOTH AIRCRAFT LANDED AT EVANSVILLE WITH NO FURTHER DAMAGE.
