NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On December 12, 2002, at 1303 universal coordinated time, a Cessna 206H, N5072T, was substantially damaged during a go-around attempt at Lawa Antino Airport (SMAN), Lawa Antino, Suriname. The pilot and three passengers received minor injuries. The flight, which was operating under Suriname flight rules, departed Zorg en Hoop (SMZO) Airport, Paramaribo, Suriname at 1154. In a written statement, the pilot reported that he began a descent about 10 miles from Lawa Antino and prepared for a landing on runway 29. After crossing the runway threshold, the pilot initiated a landing flare. The airplane remained in the flare attitude until about half-way down the runway, when the pilot applied full power to initiate a go-around. The flaps were retracted to 20 degrees, and an airspeed of 70 knots was maintained during the climbout. The airplane was unable to clear trees at the end of the runway; it impacted treetops, then the ground, and slid to a rest. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Suriname Civil Aviation Safety Authority. Any further information may be obtained from: Vliegveld Zorg en Hoop P.O. Box 12587 Paramaribo Suriname This report is for informational purposes, and only contains information released by the government of Suriname.
