NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On August 8, 2003, about 0932 eastern daylight time, a Cessna 208B, Venezuelan registration YV-1069C, operated by Empresa Servicios Aereos Sucre Compania, as an air taxi flight from Porlamar, Isla de Margarita, Venezuela to Bolivar, Venezuela, crashed while attempting a forced landing following loss of engine power at Tocomita, Venezuela. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time and an instrument flight rules flight plan was filed. The airplane received substantial damage and the pilot, copilot, and one passenger received serious injuries. The flight attendant and 12 passengers received minor injuries. The flight was en route at 11,000 feet when the engine failed. The pilots descended toward the Tocomita Airport, Tocomita, Venezuela. While attempting a forced landed at the airport, the airplane crashed about 100 meters short of the runway. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Government of Venezuela.
