NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On June 23, 2003, at approximately 1310 mountain daylight time (MDT), a Cessna TU-206F, Guatemalan registration TG-PAR, was substantially damaged during a forced landing following loss of engine power during cruise flight near the town of Palencia, in the Republic of Guatemala. The aircraft, serial number U206-02972, was owned and operated by Tecnica Universal S.A. The commercial pilot and his two passengers sustained minor injuries. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the cross country flight for which a visual flight rules (VFR) flight plan was filed. Local authorities reported that the Continental TSIO-520-M engine, serial number 825555-R, sustained a fracture approximately two inches in diameter between cylinder number 3 and 5, behind the oil filler tube and near the center of the engine block. The investigation is under the jurisdiction and control of the Government of the Republic of Guatemala.
