NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident
On June 23, 2003, at approximately 1310 mountain daylight time (MDT), a Cessna TU-206F, Guatemalan registration TG-PAR, was substantially damaged during a forced landing following loss of engine power during cruise flight near the town of Palencia, in the Republic of Guatemala. The aircraft, serial number U206-02972, was owned and operated by Tecnica Universal S.A. The commercial pilot and his two passengers sustained minor injuries. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the cross country flight for which a visual flight rules (VFR) flight plan was filed.
Local authorities reported that the Continental TSIO-520-M engine, serial number 825555-R, sustained a fracture approximately two inches in diameter between cylinder number 3 and 5, behind the oil filler tube and near the center of the engine block.
