NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident
On July 3, 2003, at 1200 central standard time, a Cessna 208B single-engine airplane, Panamanian registration HP-1403APP, was substantially damaged upon impact with trees and terrain during a forced landing following a loss of engine power near Bahia Ballena, in the Republic of Costa Rica. The airline transport pilot, the commercial pilot acting as a co-pilot, and eleven passengers suffered minor injuries. The scheduled domestic flight was operated by Servicios Aereos Nacionales S. A. (SANSA), as flight 1612, on a domestic scheduled flight from the Bahia Drake Airport to Juan Santamaria International Airport, near San Jose, Costa Rica. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident for which a VFR flight plan was filed.
