NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On September 1, 2003, at 1730 central daylight time, a Bell 206L-3 helicopter, Guatemalan registration TG-HDG, was destroyed when it impacted terrain following an in-flight encounter with weather while maneuvering near Solola, in the Republic of Guatemala. The commercial pilot and 3 of his passengers were fatally injured, and two passengers escaped with serious injuries. The helicopter, serial number 51561, was owned and operated by Helicopteros de Guatemala S.A., of Guatemala City, Guatemala. Instrument meteorological conditions prevailed in the vicinity of the accident at the time of the accident. The on-demand air taxi flight originated from Guatemala City at approximately 1630 local, with the tourist community of Panajechel, as its intended destination. The accident investigation is under the jurisdiction and control of the Government of the Republic of Guatemala.
