NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On June 22, 2003, at 1500 local time, a Cessna 172, Australian registration VH-TUR, collided with the ground following a loss of control during the takeoff initial climb from a private airstrip near Campbelltown NSW, Australia. The Australian Civil Air Patrol was operating the airplane under the pertinent provisions of the Australian Civil Aviation Regulations for search exercises. The airplane was destroyed in the collision sequence and the four occupants sustained fatal injuries. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and no flight plan was filed. The flight was originating at the time for a local area flight. The accident is under the jurisdiction of, and is being investigated by, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.
