NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On November 8, 2003, about 1400 eastern standard time, a Piper PA-46-350P, N7KH, registered to and operated by Liberty Oil and Refining Assoc. Inc., as a Title 14 CFR part 91 personal flight, had the nose gear collapse while taxiing after landing at Walkers Cay, Bahamas. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and a visual flight rules flight plan had been filed. The commercial-rated pilot was not injured, and the airplane incurred minor damage. The flight originated in West Palm Beach, Florida, the same day, about 1300. The pilot stated that he had performed a smooth landing at Walkers Cay, Bahamas, and after taxiing, just before pulling into a parking spot, the nose gear collapsed. He said that at the time, the engine was still operating. Examination of the airplane revealed that the engine mount, at the point where the nose gear is connected, had separated. The pilot stated that he had recently received the airplane after having had an annual inspection performed, and he was not aware of the existence of Piper Service Bulletin 1103, which pertains to the inspection of the engine mount. The pilot added that applicable Service Bulletins had not been performed by the repair station who performed the annual as he had expected. This investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Government of the Bahamas. Any further information can be obtained from: Director of Civil Aviation P.O. Box N-975 Nassau, N.P.
