NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On June 18, 2004, about 1300 Atlantic standard time, a Cessna 402B, N69404, registered to Aircraft Sales Corporation, leased to a private individual, experienced collapse of both main landing gears during the landing roll at the Flamingo Airport, Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time and an instrument flight rules flight plan was filed for the personal flight from the Princess Juliana Airport, St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles, to the Aeropuerto Hato, Curacao, Netherlands Antilles. The airplane was substantially damaged and the commercial-rated pilot, and pilot-rated passenger were not injured. The flight originated about 0911, from the Prinses Juliana Airport. The pilot stated that during cruise flight after passing the MILOK intersection, he noticed that the right alternator failure light illuminated. He followed the alternator failure checklist and the right alternator failure light extinguished. The flight continued and approximately 10 minutes later with the right engine alternator "on line", he heard a "[whining] sound coming from the left side of the aircraft" and noted the landing gear motor circuit breaker was popped and the landing gear in-transit light was illuminated. He slowed the airplane, lowered the landing gear using the landing gear selector, but both main landing gears did not indicate down and locked, and the landing gear motor circuit breaker popped again. Attempts to retract the landing gear were unsuccessful, and he elected to divert to his alternate airport, the Flamingo Airport, Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles. On approach to the airport he attempted to extend the landing gear manually then performed a fly by of the air traffic control tower. He was advised that the landing gear appeared to be extended and the flight returned for landing. After touchdown during the landing roll, the left main landing gear collapsed first, followed by the right main landing gear. Both occupants evacuated the airplane which came to rest off the left side of the runway. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Government of the Netherlands Antilles.
