NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On August 4, 2004, approximately 1045 Pacific daylight time, a US-registered Mooney M20J, N1144P, sustained substantial damage when it impacted trees and a fence during takeoff from Elkins Creek Airport, British Columbia, Canada. The airplane is owned by the pilot, and he was operating it as visual flight rules (VFR) cross country flight when the accident occurred. The private pilot and his passenger were not injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and a flight plan was filed for the planned flight to Bellingham, Washington. The investigation of this accident is under the jurisdiction of the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
