NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On August 15, 2004, at 1015 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), a Mooney M20K, Australian Registry VH-DXZ, was lost from radar coverage during an approach to Caloundra, Queensland, Australia. The airplane impacted the ocean about 1 nautical mile from the shoreline and was destroyed. The pilot, the sole occupant, was fatally injured. The airplane was being operated as a personal flight under the Australian Civil Aviation Regulations. The airplane departed from Cobar, New South Wales, and was destined for Caloundra. This accident is under the jurisdiction of and is being investigated by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.
