NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident
On August 15, 2004, at 1015 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), a Mooney M20K, Australian Registry VH-DXZ, was lost from radar coverage during an approach to Caloundra, Queensland, Australia. The airplane impacted the ocean about 1 nautical mile from the shoreline and was destroyed. The pilot, the sole occupant, was fatally injured. The airplane was being operated as a personal flight under the Australian Civil Aviation Regulations. The airplane departed from Cobar, New South Wales, and was destined for Caloundra.
