NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On July 30, 2001, at 20:34 UTC, a Saudi Arabian Airlines Airbus Industries A300-600 airplane, registered in Saudi Arabia as HZ-AJJ, experienced a compressor surge and fire in the No. 2 engine, a Pratt & Whitney JT9D-7R4H1, during the landing roll at the King Abdulaziz International Airport , Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. During the landing roll with the engines in reverse thrust, the No. 2 engine surged and a fire ensued. The airplane was stopped on a high speed exit taxiway and the passengers and crew evacuated the airplane. The fire was extinguished when the fire extinguisher was activated. There were no reported injuries to the 12 crew members and 247 passengers. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the government of Saudi Arabia.
