NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On October 22, 2004, about 0800 UTC, a Cessna F406, G-TWIG, operated by Highland Airways, Inverness, Scotland, collided with mountainous terrain located 37 miles northwest of Inverness. Instrument meteorological conditions were reported in the area. The aircraft was substantially damaged and the pilot was fatally injured. The aircraft departed from Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, and was en route to Inverness. Local authorities reported that the twin-turbo light twin aircraft disappeared from radar contact near Loch Broom in the Ullapool area of Wester Ross approximately 11:30 local time. The aircraft was subject to a search which located the wreckage on October 23, 2004, about 1430 local time in mountainous terrain. The accident is under the jurisdiction of and is being investigated by Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB), United Kingdom.
