NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On November 21, 2004, at about 0822 local time, a China Eastern-Yunnan Airlines Bombardier/Canadair CRJ-200 (equipped with General Electric CF34-3B1 engines) registration B-3072, crashed shortly after take off from runway 13 at the Baotou airport, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, People's Republic of China. The 6 crew and 47 passengers were fatally injured and there two ground fatalities. The airplane was destroyed. The flight was destined to Shanghai Pudong airport. The wreckage struck buildings in an amusement park area at the shore of the Yalu river. Representing the state of manufacture of the engines, the NTSB sent an accredited representative, assisted by advisors from the Federal Aviation Administration and General Electric. The NTSB also provided assistance in examining the Flight Data recorder information for aerodynamic analysis. This accident is being investigated by the Office of Aviation Safety of the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China, 155 Dongsi Street West, Dongcheng District, Beijing 100710.
