NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On January 31, 2005, about 1700 coordinated universal time, a Cessna 208B, Swedish registration SE-KYH, was destroyed when it impacted terrain while departing from Helsinki-Vaanta Airport (EFHK), Helsinki, Finland. The foreign certificated pilot sustained minor injuries. The flight was destined to Orebro-Bofors Airport (ESOE), Orebro, Sweden. According to an initial report, the airplane remained parked outside for approximately 12 hours prior to the flight. During that time, the airport experienced heavy snowfall and temperatures below freezing. The pilot subsequently initiated a takeoff on runway 22L, with the wing flaps extended 10 degrees. The pilot retracted the flaps about 800 feet agl, and the airplane banked suddenly to the right. The airplane descended rapidly and impacted terrain at the departure end of runway 22L. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Government of Finland.
