NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On April 28, 2005, at 2330 UTC, a Kaman Aerospace Corporation, K-1200, HL9167, operated by Lucky Air Co., during an external load operation, the helicopter collided with an electric power supply post, while hovering in an area of mountainous terrain in the Republic of Korea. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time and it is unknown if a flight plan was filed. The helicopter was destroyed and the pilot, the sole occupant, received minor injuries. The helicopter was hovering over a 28 meter high electric power supply post located on a 195 meter mountain to practice lifting. While communicating with ground staff for further descent, the nose landing skid hung up on the vertical beam of the post located on the top of the post. The helicopter then crashed into the mountain with the right side of the body contacting the ground first. The helicopter was destroyed by a post-crash fire. The accident is under the jurisdiction of and is being investigated by the Korea Aviation - Accident Investigation Board (KAIB).
