NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On May 1, 2005, about 1400 center standard time, a Cessna TU206F, of Honduran registration, HR-AHQ, registered to and operated by Inversions Y Servicios Cressida, ditched in the ocean about 100 feet from shore following a loss of engine power, at Tela, Honduras. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and no flight plan was filed. The airline transport-rated pilot and three passengers received minor injuries, and the airplane incurred substantial damage. The flight originated from the Toncontin International Airport, Tegucigalpa, Honduras, earlier that day, at about 1245 . Information received by the Direccion General de Aeronautica Civil stated, the airplane over flew the airport of Tela to announce their arrival. At the end of the runway they departed toward the left-hand traffic pattern and flew down the beach. Approximately 2 miles prior to turning back to towards the airport, while preparing to land, the engine stopped operating. After several attempts to restart the engine, the pilot elected to ditch the airplane in the water close to the shore, due to the population on the beach at the time. The accident investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Government of Honduras.
