NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On October 10, 2005, Alaska Airlines flight 698, a Boeing 737-900, N317AS, had smoke enter the aft cabin of the airplane after the right engine discharged a large quantity of smoke and flame from the tailpipe during the startup sequence. The 6 crew and 113 passengers conducted an emergency evacuation. There were no injuries or damage to the airplane. Flight 698 was a regularly scheduled passenger flight to Los Angeles International Airport, Los Angeles, California (KLAX). The incident is being investigated by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
