NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On April 25, 2006, approximately 1200 local time, a Garlick Helicopters UH-1H, N126AC, impacted the terrain during an emergency landing near Sarawak, Malaysia. There were seven individuals on board, none of which received significant injuries, and the aircraft, which was being operated by Erickson Air Crane, of Central Point, Oregon, for local transportation of personnel in support of logging operations, sustained substantial damage. The aircraft was being operated in visual meteorological conditions. According to the operator, the helicopter was in cruise flight about 1,000 feet above the ground (agl) at 95 knots when the pilot detected a high-frequency vibration. The pilot then headed for a nearby road in order to make a precautionary landing, and during that sequence the aircraft pitched nose down, and the pilot executed an autorotation. During the landing on the road, the helicopter rotated 90 degrees to the right, the left skid collapsed, and the aircraft rolled over onto its side.
