NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On June 26, 2006, at 1400 universal coordinated time (UTC), a twin engine Raytheon DH 125-3A airplane, United States registration N125GK, was destroyed when the main landing gear collapsed while landing on runway 15 at the General Jose Antonio Anzoategui Airport near Barcelona, Estado de Anzoategui, in the Republic of Venezuela. The two airline transport rated pilots and the 6 passengers were not injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the corporate flight for which an instrument flight rules (IFR) flight plan was filed. The airplane was owned and operated by the Great Idea Corporation of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The flight originated from Caracas (SVCS), Venezuela, with Barcelona as its intended destination. The 7,600 hour captain, who reported having accumulated approximately 600 hours in the same make and model, reported that the flight to Barcelona was uneventful. After the flight was cleared to land on runway 15, the landing gear was extended and the flight crew received confirmation in the cockpit that the landing gear was down and locked. Approximately 100 meters after a normal touchdown on runway 15, the two main landing gears collapsed and the airplane slid down the runway with the nose landing gear extended. The airplane came to a stop on the centerline of the runway and the crew and passengers deplaned the airplane unassisted. A post-impact fire consumed the aft portion of the cabin and empennage. The accident investigation is under the control and jurisdiction of the Instituto Nacional de Aviacion Civil (INAC) of the Government of Venezuela.
