NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On April 2, 2007, at 1844 local time, an Australian registered Israel Aircraft Industries Ltd Westwind 1124, VH-AJP, experienced a ruptured top rear skin panel and an explosive decompression while climbing through Flight Level 340. The aircraft was operated by Pel-Air Aviation Pty Ltd, of Mascot, NSW, Australia, as a scheduled cargo flight in accordance with the pertinent Civil Aviation Regulations of Australia. The airplane sustained substantial damage. The two pilots, the sole occupants, were not injured. The flight was en route from Darwin to Alice Springs, Australia, when the event occurred. The airplane returned to Darwin and made a successful landing. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of, and is being investigated by, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.
