NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On April 25, 2007, about 1330 Atlantic standard time, a Britten-Norman BN-2A Islander, Guyana registration, 8R-GET, registered to and operated by Air Services LTD., Guyana, as an on-demand air taxi flight, crashed near Kopinang Airstrip, Kopinang, Guyana. Instrument meteorological conditions prevailed in the area at the time, and no flight plan was filed. The pilot and two passengers were fatally injured. Two other passengers received serious injuries, and the airplane was destroyed. The flight originated at Kato Airstrip, Kato, Guyana, the same day, about 1300. According to an official with the Office of the Director General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority, the flight departed with the pilot and four passengers onboard, en route for Kopinang Airstrip, and it crashed under unknown circumstances in mountainous and rugged jungle terrain, during "bad weather", about 3 miles south of the intended destination of Kopinang Airstrip. The accident investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Government of Guyana.
