NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On September 23, 2007 about 0810 UTC, a Piper PA-46-350, Italian registration I-BSAB, registered to Malibu L.P. and operated by an individual, lost engine power during takeoff at the Orio Al Serio Airport, Bergamo, Italy. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and no flight plan was filed. The pilot and the three passengers were not injured, and the airplane incurred substantial damaged. The flight was originating at the time of the accident. According to information obtained from the Agenzia Nazionale per la Sicurezza del Volo (ANSV) of Italy, during the first stage of climb, after takeoff, the engine had a sudden loss of power. The airplane reduced speed and altitude to a pre-stall condition. The pilot, at this point, elected to land on the grass on the left side of the runway. The airplane landed with the landing gear in the up position and incurred damages before coming to a stop. This investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Government of Italy.
